How it works

Step 1Check your phone supports eSIMiPhone XS or newer, recent Samsung Galaxy, and most Pixel models work. Go to Settings and look for ‘Add eSIM’ or ‘Mobile Data’. If the option is there, you are set. Buy your plan before you leave home so the QR code is ready.
Step 2Install the eSIM profile before departureScan the QR code in your phone settings under ‘Add Mobile Plan’. The profile downloads but stays dormant until you land. Label it ‘Turkey’ so you remember which line is which. Keep your home SIM active for incoming texts.
Step 3Turn on the eSIM data line when you arriveAt Istanbul or Antalya airport, switch mobile data to the Turkey eSIM line. Turn off data roaming on your home SIM to avoid surprise charges. The eSIM connects in under a minute. No registration, no counter, no paperwork.

What is Turkey’s 120-day device registration rule?

Foreign phones with Turkish physical SIM cards must be registered with the government within 120 days or the device is blocked from all local networks. The rule does not apply to eSIMs or to phones using foreign SIMs on roaming. It was introduced to curb grey-market phone imports.

Do eSIMs work in Cappadocia and rural areas?

Turkcell and Vodafone Turkey both cover the main tourist routes, including Cappadocia, Pamukkale, and the Lycian coast. Expect slower speeds in remote valleys and mountain roads. All four providers tested connected reliably in Göreme and along the D400 highway.

Can I use an eSIM and my home SIM at the same time?

Yes. Most dual-SIM phones let you keep your home SIM active for calls and texts while routing data through the Turkish eSIM. Turn off data roaming on the home line to avoid charges. Label each line clearly in Settings so you don’t mix them up.
